The Pinenut Cottage origin story...

A short stroll from the the village of Southwest Harbor and two houses down from the lovely dark brown Wendell Gilley Decoy Museum sat a yellow ranch style of no particular interest. I was working in the neighborhood and one day saw a for sale sign go up. The realtor, as it turned out was the same person who showed some interest in buying my boat but would not quite come up to my price.  I told him (half in jest) that if he buys my boat I’ll buy that house on Herrick Road. I promised my wife and the bank that I wouldn’t renovate.  I feel terrible about that and can only say that I meant it at the time...I was modest at the outset, I left the slab.

The Pinenut Cottage is now an Alaskan cedar sided, cathedral ceilinged two-story, shed dormered, 3-bedroom, separate entertainment room with full baths (3), light, beautiful, huge living/dining area, kitchen to handle a small catering company, looking, across the road, at a gambrel roofed Maine house straight out of an Andrew Wyeth painting.  I made my house for me, for my family and the quality reflects that.  Forty years in residential construction, I’ve learned a couple of things about how to do it right.
